Ontario Ride 2023

September 8-9, 2023

For the Love of Women and Babies

We are back in the saddle, getting ready for another Ride for Gutu Mission Hospital, our purpose hasn’t changed. We want to make a positive impact in maternal and infant healthcare in the Gutu District of Zimbabwe by supporting the efforts of Gutu Mission Hospital, GMH, through training of staff and providing future training opportunities.

On September 8th and 9th, a group of cyclists will rode over two days from Dundas to Port Dover,  Ontario, Canada and back to raise funds for another one-week in-service workshop on how to diagnose and manage emergencies for mothers-to-be and their babies.

Additionally, we plan to refurbish and equip a room at GMH, so the staff have a place to learn and improve their skills next door to the maternity ward.

Our fundraising goal is $60,000.00, and we are no longer accepting new cyclists for 2023. Please try again in 2024.  Meet the other riders.

Meet the Riders

Thanks to our amazing group of riders on the 2023 Ride for Gutu Mission Hospital.

"I am motivated to participate because I believe every mother and every newborn has the right to get the best healthcare available at the best facility available."
“I am riding to help improve the health of mothers and their newborns in rural Zimbabwe. I’m doing this to raise money for training hospital workers later this year: Like a famous king from long ago: I will not offer to God that which cost me nothing.”
"I have worked as a nurse in maternal child health here in Ontario since 1984. Last year I went to Zimbabwe and experienced labor, delivery and postpartum in three different hospitals, one of which was Gutu Mission Hospital. ... In my career access to medical equipment, supplies, knowledge, lighting, sanitation, operating rooms, patient transportation etc was never questioned. I am riding because I have seen the need, I have personally heard the nurses and doctors asking for the training sessions, I believe in the education focus of EMAS and I believe in the healthcare professionals in Zimbabwe. I am called to share everything I have to give."
"I'm riding to help not only to improve the maternity ward and clinical services at Gutu Mission Hospital in Zimbabwe but also to join hands with others who share the same mission. Together, we can create a lasting impact, making healthcare accessible to those who need it most. ‘What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal'.”
“I am riding for the Gutu Mission Hospital because it is a mission like the work Dr. Jean Chamberlain does in other parts of Africa. Dr. Chamberlain delivered both my beautiful grandchildren in Canada. I am intrigued by the work done in Africa to improve the lives of mothers and infants as well as outcomes. As a Christian, I have no medical training but I will do my part raising funds for the Gutu Mission Hospital.”
“I am committed to improving the health of Africans and am convinced that one of the most effective ways to do this is through education!"
“I’m riding to help provide support and awareness for the needs of mothers and babies at the Gutu Mission Hospital in Zimbabwe. What a great cause! 'Freely you have received, freely give.' Mathew 10:8. looking forward to a great ride with like-minded folks!"
“Cyclist.”
“After a major heart operation and full recovery, and love for cycling, this is a great opportunity to help others. Thankful for this new lease of life and this cycling event is a great way to promote and advance the beautiful mercy work of EMS Canada!”
“Cyclist.”
“I am riding because I want mothers and babies in Gutu to have access to adequate care and have better health outcomes. 'To whom much is given much is required' - contributing to this ride is one way to use my time and resources to support Gutu Mission Hospital, the facility where my mother was born.”
“I’m riding for Gutu Mission Hospital because it’s a small way to give back to the community that raised my grandparents. In spite of all the obstacles they faced yesterday, I’m able to ride today because they persevered.”
“I’m riding for the Gutu Maternity Hospital in Zimbabwe. I’ll be helping to raise much needed funds so that the families in that community could experience child birth as well as medical complications without fear and instead with the help of doctors and needed equipment. Hebrews 13:16.”
“Cyclist.”
“I am riding to be able to raise money to help people in need of better health care, while at the same time improving my own health and getting to spend some quality time with other Christians who are doing the same. ‘But they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.’ Is. 40:31.”
"If a simple thing like a bike ride can improve the health of mothers and babies in Zimbabwe, then sign me up!"
Our 2023 Team is now full, if you are interested in joining the 2024 ride, let us know!

Meet the SUPPORT TEAM

Thanks to our amazing support team of the 2023 Ride for Gutu Mission Hospital.

“I’m joining the ride for the Gutu Maternity hospital because I know the need for improved service. When mother’s lives are compromised with what we in the western world consider to be a virtually risk free procedures, I feel compelled to involve myself, at least in the smallest way, in God’s service to provide some help.”
"We are pleased to be able to supply support to the riders by looking after their food needs and providing help if the riders run into difficulties along the route."
"I come from Chiwara Village in Masvingo Province. Gutu Mission Hospital is the referral hospital for women who experience complications during pregnancy and delivery. Local clinics do not have facilities to help women with high risk pregnancies, premature labour and preterm birth conditions amongst others. I am passionate to help fundraise as the building of a maternity ward with state of the art facilities, will help many families and the community welcome healthy babies and preserve the mothers lives."
"I am inspired by the love and generosity of Canadians and other well wishers to support a community thousands of miles away. Gutu Mission Hospital is dear to me because that's where my rural home is and it not only assists my relatives, but some of them work there. So this noble cause fulfills a very personal need."
